Welcome to the Global South Colloquium (GSC) online community, a forum for regular interdisciplinary exchange and intellectual exploration among faculty, graduate students, and all members of the Uvic community on the history and politics of globalization.

The GSC serves as an archive and blog space for debates and explorations of topics of yearly interest for the Uvic community. The focus on the “Global South” serves as a point of entry and provocation to analyze the world system, its contours, its inequities, and its sources of power, as opposed to only a geographical, or nation-state-centric, understanding of the world. The colloquium’s thematic range includes topics such as religion, migration, indigeneity, political thought, and ecological and environmental change, and so intersects with the iterations of the “West” and the “non-West” alike.
